Holding regular (and ad hoc) events forms an important part of our Brentwood à Becket Rotary Club. We are always open to new ideas for fund-raising events and new ideas is what new members could bring to the club – come and join us now!
Every year in March we hold this amazing event, which has raised around £4million so far since its inception in 1981. Anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 runners have entered each year, and the atmosphere is amazing. As a member, you have the opportunity of being involved in the organisation and running of the event, or simply by just helping out on the day as a marshal or helper in some way.
We are supported by three new members of the consortium: Brentwood Running Club, Saint Francis Hospice and Brentwood Theatre all of whom take on a different aspect of the organisation. We also rely heavily on our sponsors without whom the event couldn’t happen.
The main sponsor is Baker Labels who have supported us for a few years now, and the ‘Band B’ sponsors include Hilbery Chaplin Estate Agents, and SV Sports Therapy. Our grateful thanks goes out to them all. We also rely on a huge number of volunteers who act as marshals all around the course, and manning all the water stations dotted around the course. Quiz night
Our annual quiz night has been going on for 32 years during with time we have raised over £75,000 pounds! We attract anything from 225 to 350 people (our record is 388!). The current beneficiaries are SNAP Special Needs and Parents) who are a locally based charity who look after children with special needs who have specific learning difficulties with the emphasis on the parents who are able to get together giving them a little respite. If you are a keen quizzer, you can enter by phoning, 07739 277 998.
Christmas collection
In the fifteen years we have been collecting we have now exceeded £40,000 which is generally donated to two designated charities each year. These have included Essex Air Ambulance, Marillac Hospital, Daily Bread, St Francis Hospice and sometimes it is just allocated to Rotary charities which means it can go towards any specific cause which the Rotary club has in the pipeline.
